Up until a handful of years ago, hostels offered a unique form of accommodation where rooms were dormitory style with bunk beds, where you would also have the pleasure of sharing a bathroom with many other guests!! Also you might have had to be in by a certain time, or face the torture of having to scramble to find somewhere to go for a night's rest.
