Anderson/Lake Hartwell KOA is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is a gateway to an array of local attractions. There is an abundance of outdoor activities such as hiking, boating, fishing and whitewater rafting. Our country’s history is preserved at every turn through museums and historic districts. You and your family will love every minute of your stay with us.

  • HUNTER’S STORE – Get the information you need at this one-time general store! This 1850 building now houses the South Carolina Regional Tourism Office where you can gather information about the area, along with maps and brochures. There is also a research library, a bookstore and an arts and crafts shop. Located in the town of Pendleton, a short ten-minute drive from the Campground. Open Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. Free Admission.
  • FALLS PARK – Don’t miss this downtown Greenville park! It was built around Reedy River and its rushing waterfalls. Wander the gardens, enjoy a picnic and listen to the water as it flows over the rocks. Maybe you will catch one of the events or festivals held here throughout the year. The focal point of this park is the 355-foot long Liberty Bridge, which spans Reedy River in a beautiful curve. At night, the unique architecture is emphasized with lights that lend an ethereal glow. Open 7:00 am - 9:00 pm daily. Free Admission.
  • JOHN C. CALHOUN HOUSE – This historic dwelling built in the early nineteenth century was home to the Vice President of the United States, John C. Calhoun. He left the house and the 1,100-acre plantation, Fort Hill, to the state and it now sits in the heart of Clemson University. This national historic landmark is a must-see for history buffs. Open Monday-Saturday, 10:00 am - 4:30 pm; Sunday, 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm. Admission is charged.

      Go Whitewater Rafting, Hiking
            or Fishing!

  • LAKE HARTWELL – For outdoor recreation, you can’t beat a trip to Lake Hartwell! With 56,000 acres of water and 960 miles of shoreline, it is one of the Southeast’s largest and most popular lakes. Go boating, swimming and fishing. Enjoy a picnic at a recreation area. This is the perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors or to just relax and unwind for a while.
  • CHATTOOGA NATIONAL WILD AND SCENIC RIVER – The Chattooga is one of the longest free-flowing mountain rivers in the Southeast and remains relatively undeveloped. You might recognize it as the river in the movie, “Deliverance.” It is a premier whitewater rafting river for those who dare, but is also wonderful for canoeing, kayaking and fishing. See thundering falls, dense forests and deep cold pools. Otters, bears and beavers are a few of the creatures you might encounter along the way. Located northwest of Anderson.
  • WHITEWATER FALLS – Upper Whitewater Falls is the highest waterfall east of the Rockies and plunges 411 feet. Lower Whitewater Falls then drops another 400 feet, creating a spectacular sight. Feel the spray on your face, hear the thunder of the falls and enjoy the rich variety of flowers, ferns and salamanders. Open year round from dawn to dusk. Admission is charged. Paved walkway to upper overlook is wheelchair accessible. Located north on SC 130.
  • MOUNTAIN BRIDGE WILDERNESS AREA – With over 11,000 acres, this wilderness area connects two Greenville watersheds and encompasses both Caesars Head and Jones Gap State Parks. Explore the most complex trail system in South Carolina, with hikes ranging from easy to all-day. See waterfalls, an amazing assortment of plant and animal life, beautiful forests and great views. Leap into a swimming hole, go fishing or have a picnic! Whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed.

      From Rhinos to Geodes,
                We've Got You Covered!

  • HOLLYWILD ANIMAL PARK – This is a must-see for animal lovers! The 100-acre park is home to hundreds of animals, many of whom are stars in movies, commercials and print ads. Chances are you’ve already seen some of them! Take an “Outback Safari” where you will ride amongst the free-roaming animals; you can even hand feed many of them. See elephants, rhinos, orangutans, lions and many more. Hours vary throughout the year (call 864-472-2038). The park can be found at 2325 Hampton Road, Wellford SC 29385. Admission is charged.
  • SOUTH CAROLINA BOTANICAL GARDEN – “There’s always something blooming” at South Carolina Botanical Garden, located at Clemson University. This 295-acre public garden is home to thousands of plants, flowers and trees. Explore the woodlands, streams, niche gardens and the arboretum. The pathways lead you from one wonder to the next, including extraordinary outdoor sculptures. Open every day from dawn to dusk. Free Admission.
  • BOB CAMPBELL GEOLOGY MUSEUM – See the 450 pound amethyst geode from Brazil and the largest topaz ever found in this country! There are meteorites, fossils, stone carvings and one of the largest faceted gem collections in the Southeast. Don’t miss the darkroom with fluorescent minerals glowing under ultraviolet light. Open Wednesday-Saturday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm; Sunday, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Admission is charged. Handicap accessible. Located on the Clemson University campus.

      Roads Well Traveled…

  • STUMPHOUSE TUNNEL AND PARK – If you’re not afraid of the dark, be sure to see the Stumphouse Tunnel!
