The Battle of Gettysburg, often referred to as the turning point in the Civil War, and Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address placed the small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on the map and in the history books. But Gettysburg, located in Adams County, was here long before the War, and remains a thriving town filled with history, culture, and small town warmth.
Visitors today enjoy a variety of activities while in Gettysburg. A traditional visit will include touring the Gettysburg National Military Park and its 1,000-plus monuments and cannon spanning over 40 miles of scenic avenues. The Eisenhower National Historic Site offers a look into anther era. The only home that President and Mrs. Eisenhower owned is located just south of Gettysburg and is open to visitors. Both locations provide activities in addition to the daily tours. Gettysburg also offers over 35 museums, tours and attractions.
Gettysburg offers entertainment through ghost tours, dining, festivals, fairs, a yearly Battle reenactment, and other special events. Shoppers delight in the stores, boutiques, and galleries offering gifts, art, antiques and more.
Adams County provides the perfect setting for fishing, camping, hiking, bike riding, horseback riding, and skiing. Spring provides a beautiful blooming backdrop; fall foliage offers breathtaking scenic drives, while winter blankets the ground softly with fallen snow.
