When approaching a toll station at a bridge a few years ago, the clerk told me, "The car before you said to tell you to have a nice day and he has paid your fare." Ever since that time, I have made a point of doing the same thing for others. The extra 50 cents always buys me a good feeling and provides the hope that they may do the same for someone else!
I try to carry a package of sugar free bubble gum when I fly. It is great to relieve and entertain a distressed youngster who finds his ears hurting from pressure. I do get the parents permission first.
When I see a vehicle pull in to a parking spot beside me with an out of state license plate and travel maps in the front dash, I always smile and say, "Welcome to our town!" It is my part of community hospitality. We can't let southerners have all the fun ;-)
Hold the elevator for someone who appears to be headed in that direction.
