- SEQUOIA PARK ZOO – Discover what the locals have known for 100 years! Visit the bear grotto and the primate habitat, walk through the aviary amongst the colorful birds and watch the otters play in the pond. There is a petting zoo and a barnyard where the kids can get up close to their favorite farm animals. Winter hours are 10:00 am - 5:00 pm and summer hours are 10:00 am - 7:00 pm, Tuesday-Sunday. Admission is by donation. Located just east of Sequoia Park in Eureka.
- THE CLARK HISTORICAL MUSEUM – This museum will guide you through the rich history of Humboldt County with its collections of photographs, clothing, dolls and firearms. Don’t miss the Native American wing with its world-renowned collections of hand-woven baskets and stoneware. Open Tuesday-Saturday, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. Free Admission. Located in the heart of Old Town Eureka.
- MORRIS GRAVES MUSEUM OF ART – See what the local artists have been creating at this museum with its seven galleries and courtyard sculpture garden. There is always something going on, from dance performances and readings to children’s art classes. Come to “Arts Alive!” on the first Saturday of every month to see what’s new. Open Wednesday-Sunday, 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Admission by donation. Located in Eureka.
- DISCOVERY MUSEUM – Children of all ages will love the hands-on interactive exhibits at the Discovery Museum. They can learn about science, art, culture and technology. Play with puppets, work with simple machines, even climb aboard the 20 foot tall SS Discovery. Open Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm; Sunday, 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Admission is charged. Located in Eureka.
- ARCATA COMMUNITY FOREST AND REDWOOD PARK – Lose yourself in a redwood forest, right next to the city! Located within the city limits of Arcata is a 620-acre forest where you can hike, bike and even ride horseback on nearly ten miles of trails. Take a picnic and enjoy one of the many outdoor events offered in the park. Self-guided trail maps are available from the Arcata Chamber. Located on the east side of Arcata.

- REDWOODS – Drive right through the center of a redwood tree. About 35 miles south of Eureka is the Avenue of the Giants; a magnificent 31-mile scenic drive through over 51,000 acres of redwood groves. These trees are the tallest living things on the planet, growing up to 370 feet tall! Many are hundreds of years old.
- ARCATA MARSH AND WILDLIFE SANCTUARY – Welcome to bird watching heaven! The Arcata Marsh is a series of marshes designed to naturally treat wastewater before it is released into Humboldt Bay and has developed into a resting spot for migrating birds. Over 160 species of birds, including ducks and osprey, can be seen here. Plus there are jogging and cycling trails to enjoy. The Interpretive Center is open seven days a week from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm and there are bird watching tours Saturdays at 8:30 am.
- OLD TOWN EUREKA AND BOARDWALK – A trip to Old Town Eureka will take you back in time to when this seaport was crowded with loggers and fishermen. Enjoy the eclectic shops, plenty of dining choices and beautiful views. Stroll the Boardwalk on the edge of Humboldt Bay and watch the fishing fleet at work!
- WOODLEY ISLAND – Woodley Island may be small, but it is packed with things to see and do. Venture through the marina admiring the boats, eat the freshest seafood, charter a boat for a tour and pick up some souvenirs. Visit the Table Bluff Lighthouse, which has been saving sailors since 1892 and the statue of “The Fisherman.” Located just off Humboldt.
- HUMBOLDT BAY HARBOR CRUISE – Gain a new perspective on Eureka with an 8.5-mile cruise along the waterfront. Ride on the last of the city’s original ferries; the Madaket is the oldest vessel in continuous service in the country. The 75-minute ride includes narration on the city’s maritime history. Cruises run from May to September. Admission is charged. Wheelchair accessible. Located on the Eureka Boardwalk.
