Fort Wilderness is located in Whittier, North Carolina otherwise known as the Great Smoky Mountains. Fort Wilderness is nestled in a quiet location surrounded by mountains, tress, and wildlife and is known to be the most beautiful campground in the area since 1960. Here you can camp in the heart of the mountains and enjoy the views in an air conditioned RV, camper, themed cabin, teepee, yurt, tent, or sleeping under the stars-it's your choice. At the campground you can go swimming, walking, playing, biking, jogging or hiking--the choice is yours. You can't survive those long summer nights without a good spook! Say "hi" to our civil war graveyard, but be polite and hike our trail. We have a trail leading to what we call the "dragons nest"; there are dozens in all directions, you just gotta know where to look. There is even an overlook of the mountains.
Think about waking up smelling the mountain air, the breeze tickling the flesh of you cheeks, walking on a trail or on the road with a great mountain view, with the birds whispering in your ear. Maybe you just want to look out the window and sip your tea. Don't worry about any noise because the kids will be sleeping late enjoying the summer time! But when they finally wake up they'll want to head to the pool for a swim and some fun and a splashing good time! You still won't hear them because the trees and mountains block the sounds. Next thing to consider is a day filled with pure fun and play; wether it's a game of golf, white water rafting, a slow kayak ride down the river, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, gambling or driving.
We provide church service on Sunday mornings, sometimes we even have a Bible Camp. We also have Bible study on Monday nights provided by managers, Mark and Lavern Bonds. We have many planned events for family members of all ages. Just remember you're on vacation and it's good to giggle and have a good time! Even thought you're camping you have the right to be spoiled with Wi-Fi, Cable TV and big screen TV for special events. We also have a big game room, meeting room, pavilion and a full service store with RV supplies for your convenience. We are easily accessible and 1.5 miles from downtown Cherokee. We have over 30 full service, large, pull-thru sites available; all with 50 AMP service. We are also a pet friendly park and have 2 large, very clean bath houses and laundry facilities. So hurry up and get here, we have a friendly staff just waiting to serve you.
